Caregiver training is a clinically guided service in which a BCBA teaches and supports parents or other authorized caregivers in implementing strategies from the client's treatment plan. Training may include explanation, modeling, guided practice, feedback, and problem-solving. Strategies are adapted to the needs, priorities, culture, and daily routines of each family.

Families play an essential role in helping children use and maintain meaningful skills outside therapy sessions. At A Big Act ABA Therapy LLC, caregiver training is individualized, collaborative, and connected directly to the client's treatment goals.

Our purpose is to help caregivers understand behavior, apply practical strategies, and feel more confident supporting their child during everyday routines.

Areas We May Address

Caregiver training may include:

  • Understanding the purpose or function of behavior
  • Identifying antecedents and consequences
  • Promoting functional communication
  • Reinforcing appropriate and meaningful behavior
  • Responding consistently to challenging behavior
  • Supporting transitions and changes in routine
  • Teaching daily living and independence skills
  • Improving cooperation with everyday activities
  • Promoting generalization across people and settings
  • Collecting or sharing relevant information about progress
  • Preparing for community activities or new routines

What Happens During a Training Session?

The BCBA reviews current concerns, progress, and family priorities. The clinician may explain a strategy, demonstrate how to use it, observe the caregiver practicing it, and provide supportive feedback.

Caregivers also have opportunities to ask questions and discuss barriers that may make a strategy difficult to use consistently. Recommendations are adjusted when clinically appropriate so they remain realistic and relevant to family life.

A Collaborative Approach

Caregiver training is not about expecting families to become therapists. It is about providing understandable and useful tools that can be incorporated into everyday interactions.

Consistent collaboration between the clinical team and caregivers can help support skill maintenance, generalization, and meaningful progress across daily environments.
