ABA Therapy in Daycare
Supporting Participation in Your Child's Daily Environment
Talk with our team
Daycare-based ABA therapy supports children within the routines and social environment they experience during the day. With authorization from the family and cooperation from the daycare, services may be provided directly in the childcare setting when clinically appropriate and permitted by the facility.
The purpose of daycare-based intervention is to help the child participate more successfully in naturally occurring activities while promoting communication, independence, social engagement, and behavioral regulation.
Skills We May Address
Depending on the child's individualized treatment plan, therapy in daycare may address:
- Following classroom and group routines
- Transitioning between activities
- Participating in circle time or group activities
- Functional communication
- Requesting help, breaks, or preferred items
- Playing near or with peers
- Sharing and taking turns
- Following simple or multistep instructions
- Remaining engaged in developmentally appropriate activities
- Tolerating waiting and changes
- Using safe and appropriate behavior
- Generalizing previously learned skills
Collaboration Within the Daycare Setting
When appropriate permissions are in place, the ABA team may coordinate with daycare personnel to understand the child's routines and promote consistency. ABA professionals do not replace daycare staff or determine the daycare's educational programming. Their role is to implement the child's medically necessary behavioral treatment within the approved environment.
What Happens During a Daycare Session?
The therapist works with the child during naturally occurring routines, play, transitions, and group activities. Teaching opportunities are incorporated into the child's day while minimizing unnecessary disruption to the daycare program.
The BCBA monitors progress, evaluates the effectiveness of intervention procedures, and makes clinically appropriate adjustments to the treatment plan.
