ABA Assessment and Individualized Treatment Planning
Understanding Your Child's Needs and Building a Meaningful Plan
Talk with our team
Effective ABA treatment begins with a comprehensive understanding of the individual. At A Big Act ABA Therapy LLC, the assessment process helps us identify the client's strengths, areas of need, behavioral concerns, family priorities, and skills that may improve independence and quality of life.
The information collected is used to develop an individualized treatment plan with meaningful and measurable goals.
What Does an ABA Assessment Include?
Depending on the client's needs and the requirements of the funding source, the assessment process may include:
- Caregiver interviews
- Review of diagnostic and clinical records
- Direct observation
- Assessment of communication, social, play, adaptive, and learning skills
- Evaluation of behaviors that may interfere with safety or participation
- Functional behavior assessment procedures when clinically indicated
- Review of previous services and treatment history
- Identification of caregiver priorities
- Recommendations regarding treatment goals, setting, and intensity
Individualized Treatment Recommendations
Assessment results are used to develop treatment recommendations tailored to the client. The plan may include goals related to:
- Functional communication
- Social interaction
- Daily living and adaptive skills
- Play and leisure
- Following instructions
- Tolerance and flexibility
- Safety awareness
- Reduction of clinically significant interfering behaviors
- Caregiver participation and training
- Generalization and maintenance of skills
Ongoing Review and Clinical Oversight
Each objective is selected according to medical necessity, clinical relevance, assessment findings, and the needs of the individual — not from a one-size-fits-all program.
Assessment does not end when treatment begins. The BCBA regularly reviews data, observes service delivery, evaluates progress, and modifies treatment protocols when clinically necessary.
Treatment recommendations may change over time as the client acquires skills, priorities evolve, or new needs are identified.
Take the First Step
